For us, Disney is our second home but we don’t get to visit there enough. This past summer while on a Disney vacation, we stumbled on a great deal by becoming Annual Passholders. What? An annual pass when we live in NC??? I know you’re thinking that doesn’t financially or feasibly seem right. Normally being an AP is expensive and if you live 592 miles away like we do, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Especially when you and your husband work full-time and have two kids in school. But this deal made sense to us and we grabbed it and ran with it.
Back in July, we were on our way out of Animal Kingdom and stopped by the Guest Services office. I just wanted to ask a quick question about an Annual Pass for my daughter. She is in college and makes frequent trips to Disney with her friends so I thought it would be cheaper for her to be an AP if she was going pretty often. You know I’m always looking for a bargain!
The cast member we spoke to couldn’t have been more helpful. When he pulled up our Disney account, he saw where we had reservations in January to visit again. We had reserved our room, but not bought any tickets to the parks. It turns out that what we were going to spend on tickets for January would be more than what we would pay for annual passes. Huh? How does that work?
Since we were currently on vacation at Disney and had already purchased and were using our tickets, the money we had spent on those tickets could be subtracted from the price of the annual pass.
Which means big savings on something we were going to buy anyway! How cool is that?!?
We were so excited when be left Guest Services that day! I never in a million years thought that we would be AP’s. The cast member could obviously tell we were about to bust with excitement and offered to take our pictures holding our new annual pass cards.
As an Annual Passholder, there are many other benefit besides just getting in the parks whenever you want. There are discounts, a newsletter, magnets for your car, and special items that only AP’s can buy. Free parking at the parks and a special line to get in the parks. Let me tell you…it is a wonderful feeling!
So, when my daughter asked me to go with her on a quick mommy-daughter only Disney trip this weekend, it was hard to say no. Yes it’s a long way to drive, but we want to get as much use out of these annual passes that we can.
After we get back home, I will tell you all about our quick-trip experience. So, stay tuned!
