Enjoy every little thing

“Enjoy every little thing.” That’s a quote from Cracker Barrel. Besides having the best Sunday chicken, they have a good point. Enjoying everything on a vacation is what your focus should be on. It’s what it’s all about…bringing joy to your life. The new experiences, memories, and stories along the way are just icing on the cake.

The planning…

This is often my favorite part. Planning out a trip and the anticipation of things to come is bliss for me. I spend hours looking at the route, the nearby interesting places, and the food….ahhh the food. My itineraries are elaborate but doable and full of something for everyone.

Getting there is half the fun…

How are you traveling? By car, by plane, by bus? My husband and I love to sing (badly) to the radio, talk about random things, and look around us. We try not to just stick with the interstates. We want to see the little quaint towns, the roadside oddities, and more than just guardrails and billboard signs.

Speaking of getting there…

Are you on your way to one location like Disney or the beach? Or is your vacation the trip itself with small destinations along your route? When you arrive do you jump on the bed? I know when I was a kid, when I got to a hotel I would jump on the bed. My parents didn’t like me jumping on the beds at home, but they relaxed on vacation and that was one of my luxuries. Nowadays when we arrive, we take a good look at our surroundings, the amenities of the hotel/resort/campground, and what we want to do next.

Luxuries…

Speaking of luxuries, I would take a bath filled up to the top. At home we conserved water, but on vacation, we could splurge! What luxuries do take advantage of while on vacation?

Stick to a plan…sort of…

As I said, I spend a lot of time planning out the trip. Itineraries and schedules are my friends! But remember to be flexible, too. For example, you had picked out a great place to eat in Baltimore on your way through, but you’re making great time and as you get closer and it’s only 11 AM and nobody is hungry yet. Just pull out your phone, figure out where you’ll be in an hour or two, and use one of the many apps to find a great place to dine. Stressing over rigidly sticking to a schedule is not enjoying every little thing.

Leave room for Jesus…

There’s always room for Jesus! But do you leave room for exploring, shopping, and leisure? Leaving free time in your days can lead to unexpected treasures. Go explore that little town…find an antique store…see the countryside…have a picnic in a park.

The party’s over…

Are you sad when the vacation is over? Sometimes when I leave Disney World, I feel like crying. Sad, huh? But that’s ok…go ahead and start planning your next adventure to boost your spirits. There are so many places to see and things to do, you can always have that next trip in the works.

Just remember to “Enjoy every little thing”.
