Layered Vinyl Incredible Shirts!

Updated: Oct 18, 2018

My daughter, a junior in college, is a member of a sorority. One of the most exciting days in sorority life is Big/Little Reveal Day. A lot of preparation leads up to this day including recruitment, rose dates, secret gifts from the Big to the Little, mixers, etc. On the week of Reveal Day, the Big gives little hints as to who she is to her Little. The Big sneaks in and decorates the Little's room and leaves her presents like knick-knacks, candles, sorority themed shirts, and hand decorated canvases. The Big tries to hide who she is and sometimes leads her Little to thinking she is someone else. These are all fun things when a girl decides to join a sorority. It is also a lot of work for the Big. Luckily for my daughter, she has a crafty mom to help her make things for this process.

Here are a sampling of things that I made...

Here's a shout out to one of my favorite bloggers, Kim West, from A Girl and a Glue Gun who I purchased a lot of this vinyl from. You should check out her blog! Click here!

For Big/Little Reveal Day, my daughter (the Big) picked out a theme and chose The Incredibles. She bought plain red long sleeve t-shirts. And I used my Brother Scan-n-Cut machine to make the pattern. You can go to my downloads page for a pdf file you can use for the pattern.

I found this perfect Incredibles font here...the Incredibles font.

Once the pattern and the words were all cut out, I ironed them on. The black shrunk a bit so that's why it looks a little bubbly. After some research, I learned that I should only press the bottom layers a few seconds (maybe 5) each and then once the layers are all in place, give it a final long press. You live and you learn!

Also, many tell you not to layer anything on top of glitter vinyl, but it worked out really well on this project.

For the theme, the girls all wore black leggings, boots, and little masks. On the day of the reveal, the Little is given her shirt and mask and told to go find the others wearing the same outfits. Here are the girls after the big reveal. They all loved their shirts!

What do you think of the shirts? Have you ever tried to layer vinyl?
